A Boutique Provider
Being a boutique provider of learning solutions doesn’t mean that Home Care Institute sells cute shoes, flashy clothes, or glittering jewelry. And even though our award-winning content is highly engaging and interactive, it’s not flashy or glittery either. What being a boutique provider does mean is that we offer personalized, high-touch learning solutions in the home health and hospice niche market.
Unlike mega e-learning companies that are controlled by venture capitalists and equity brokers, Home Care Institute focuses more on the satisfaction of our clients rather than how fast we can grow and how big we can expand our bottom line. Instead of being a small fish in a massive ocean, our clients, no matter how small, are always big fish in an ocean of amazing opportunities. And we know that with a goal of making our clients successful, we will in the end be successful ourselves.
Being a boutique provider of learning solutions means that everything we do is done to support the needs of our clients. Whether it’s taking the extra effort to develop unique, state-of-the-art content or providing extended support 7 days a week, we pride ourselves on becoming part of your organization - your very own Learning Management System administrators. With other vendors, once you sign on the dotted line, you find yourself with one more thing you have to manage. But with Home Care Institute, our goal is to eliminate many of the time-consuming, repetitive learning functions your education team tackles each month so that you can focus on what’s really important: your people.
Every course we produce is expertly developed by a team of experts in home care and hospice and technology-based learning. You won’t find manuscripts written by subject matter experts and then slapped into boring page-turner courses in our library. You’ll have a large and growing library of highly interactive courses that have been proven to increase knowledge and outcomes. In the end, you save money, while improving quality and outcomes. That’s our definition of “win-win.”

Lu Post, President and Founder, is a registered nurse with a master's degree in nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and a master's degree in education with a focus in learning technology. With over 25 years experience in home care and hospice, she started out as a weekend nurse and quickly worked her way up into senior leadership and senior education roles in two of the largest home care and hospice organizations in the country.
Lu remembers her early days as a home health and hospice nurse, "Having worked in critical care at Emory University Hospital for many years as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, a friend talked me into taking a weekend nursing position at Visiting Nurse Health System in Atlanta so I could spend more time with my newborn. I honestly thought it would only be for a year or two. But I almost immediately fell in love with everything that home health and hospice offered. There's nothing better than taking care of people in the place that means the most to them - their homes. And interestingly, many patients were as sick or sicker than the patients I cared for in the ICU. To make it even more challenging was the need to be creative with resources and depend on and trust my own knowledge and experience."

She always had a knack for them and knew that one day she would combine her passions for technology, nursing and education into a dream career.
As VP of Training for a home care and hospice organization with over 20,000 employees, she recalls how she successfully launched an early learning management system. "When we started that initiative, online learning was in its infancy. A few hospitals had applications, but there was very little out there for home health and hospice. I knew we could try to fit our square peg into a round hole, but home care is so different that I knew it wouldn't meet our needs. So with the blessing of a very progressive leadership team, I developed an incredible team and we all learned together how to build a highly effective solution."
After that experience, Lu knew there was a need for quality, technology-based learning in home care and hospice and Home Care Institute was born. There are few other industries as regulated, and with a remote workforce, bringing employees into the office for education is costly and diminishes productivity. More importantly, Lu understands that by embracing well-crafted, engaging computer-based training, people can learn more effectively. They can go at their own pace, and they have an abundance of opportunities to practice in a safe environment. Home Care Institute takes every opportunity to keep abreast of the science of learning and develops content grounded on that science.
Today, there are many competitors in the technology-based learning space. When asked how Home Care Institute is different, Lu says, "Many of our competitors are owned by financial capitalists who have as their primary concern, the desire to make money and a lot of it. We're not only a nurse-run company, but a home health and hospice expert-run business. While we have a responsibility to be financially fiscal, our primary goal is a desire to provide our clients with the best, most effective education and resources. Just as important is our mission to fully support the platform. Our clients don't partner with us to then have one more thing to manage. Partnering with Home Care Institute means that our clients have a new member of their team. As a boutique provider of educational resources, we offer a robust solution with a small, home-town feel."[/show_more]
